Plum Creek has operated in Maine since 1998 when we purchased forestland from SAPPI. Today, we are one of the largest private landowners in the state with approximately 861,000 acres of working forests under our ownership and management.

Office & Staff

The company has offices in Fairfield, Greenville and Bingham, Maine. In the state, we employ more than 40 people and partner with numerous contractors and customers.

Our team in Maine, and throughout our Northern Hardwood Region as a whole, has a wealth of experience in forest management, wood fiber merchandising and land management, and are innovators in environmental stewardship and wildlife habitat conservation.

Sustainable Forestry

We work in partnership with local and state governments to ensure we meet or exceed all forestry rules, regulations and environmental laws.

Our company was the first in the nation to have our timberlands third-party certified to meet the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Standard.

Commitment to Conservation and Open Access

Our Maine ownership includes the largest conservation easement created in state history with more than 360,000 acres of land forever conserved as working forests and providing public recreational access. That easement, covering 96% of our land in the Moosehead Lake region, is just one of our many conservation easements and conservation projects in the state.

Our Maine conservation efforts also focus on plant life, wildlife habitat, water quality, regeneration and more. View our land conservation map in Maine.

In 2014, Plum Creek planted more than 860,000 seedlings in Maine and we have achieved abundant natural regeneration of our forests. Nationwide Plum Creek planted more than 59 million trees in 2014. We are also frequent partners with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife and other groups to support innovative environmental projects, including these:

Plum Creek understands the value that forestland provides for recreational opportunities. In Maine, the vast majority of our land is publicly accessible, including our working forest conservation easement in the Moosehead Lake region

You are invited to enjoy our forests for hiking, canoeing, fishing, snowmobiling and more.  Please respect the land and follow our guidelines as you do so. Below is a map and guidelines for easy reference.

A Community Partner

As a member of the Maine community, we understand our role as a corporate citizen and are committed to being a good neighbor. Our staff is active locally as leaders, educators and volunteers, and through the Plum Creek Foundation, we provide financial support to Maine organizations with the goal of providing basic needs and helping sustain rural communities. In 2014, the Plum Creek Foundation awarded $160,000 in grants to non-profit groups in Maine alone.
